The Greater Gaspé Salmon Foundation will hold its 20th annual fundraiser in 2019.
Since 1998, the foundation’s mission has been to raise and manage the funds to be invested in the preservation and development of the salmon stocks in the rivers of Gaspé. The foundation is able to achieve its mission by means of the donations and profits earned at the annual fundraising dinner.
The foundation is proud to have invested more than $87 000 to dismantle the blockage on St-Jean River in the winter of 2015. A major blockage had formed in the estuary of the river and was a risk to the salmon stocks by impeding their migration.
The foundation has supported the project of providing incubators in schools around Gaspé for several years now. It helps to raise children’s awareness of the fragility and value that salmon stocks represent for our magnificent territory.
Lastly, the foundation is all set to start a project to characterise the spawning grounds and thermal refuges in Gaspé’s three rivers in order to measure and better protect the salmon stocks.
